Summary: “Ramgal Valley in western Nuristan represents one of the least developed regions in one of the least developed countries in the world. Unlike the rest of Afghanistan the area does not need reconstruction for the simple reason that there is nothing there to reconstruct. The area has never had any infrastructure no only are there no medical or educational facilities (the nearest being a week’s walk away) there is not even a road accessible to the valley without several days walk”—(p. 12).
