Summary: Summary: “This note examines the likely effects of the corona virus outbreak in Afghanistan using the UNDP-GTAP model that has been developed specially for Afghanistan. Along with their fiscal implications, the note simulates the impact of changes mainly for the short–run (2020-21) arising from disruptions in the global and regional trade, the health response required to contain the spread of the virus, and the need to introduce policies to mitigate the social impact of the pandemic. The simulations are performed for a Medium Transmission scenario developed by the Ministry of Public Health. For completeness, results for 2021-2 are also included but, given the extraordinary degree of ongoing uncertainties, domestically and internationally, these may be subject to significant forecast errors…”—(page 1).
