Summary, etc Summary: “The Amu Darya is a major river of Central Asia with a total length of over 2500 km and the drainage basin covering over 300,000 sq.km. The Pyanj River is a major upstream tributary of the Amu Darya River, it contributes approximately 50% to the Amu Darya’s water flow and is largely unregulated1. Making a considerable part of the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border, the Pyanj River, as well as its basin, requires cooperation of both countries to address pressing issues related to the natural disaster risk reduction and ecosystems protection.
