Abstract: This article provides an analysis of China's policies concerning Afghanistan's development and modernization programs prior to the Soviet invasion of the country in December 1979. It also examines China's position toward the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan (December 1979- February 1989), and its policies supporting the resistance movement in the country.
