Summary : “The Afghanistan Rights Monitor (ARM) conducted a rapid survey in the country to gauge peoples’ perceptions about democracy and legitimacy in the new Karzai government as per their civil and political rights. We asked three key questions from 500 people, male and female, in the provincial cities of all 34 provinces. The 500 interviewees were asked about their perception of legitimacy in the Karzai government after the august 20th presidential election, the importance of political legitimacy and whether or not legitimacy can be revived or lost in the coming five years”—(p. 1).
